Large Calves

Attractive calves are desirable to people of all cultures, a large calf may be considered an aesthetic problem by women who find it awkward wearing clothes like short skirts. Relative to Europeans, the average Asian person is of a short stature and their calf tends to be shorter and thicker, and bulky calves can make short legs look even shorter. The calves can become too large due to genetics and excess fat tissue, but it can be developed through physical training exercise or improper posture.

Larger calves are usually due to the following reasons:

Fatty Component

There may simply be an excessive fatty deposits in this area, bulking up the calves and making them look big. Lower level of physical activity may lead to excess fat content of the calf. Fatty deposits in the calves and ankles can be difficult to improve with just diet and exercise.

Muscular Component

The calf muscle are located on the back of the lower legs, when they are large and toned, they can make your lower legs look large and bulky. Their development depends upon the activities you perform in your daily life and focused exercise, especially in those that are very active or who do a lot of reaching, dancing or wearing high heels.

Swollen component

Another fairly common cause of bulky calves is related to fluid accumulation within the leg, whether due to blood congestion or tissue fluid. Normally blood and tissue fluid is drained a way by the veins and lymphatic vessels respectively. Any disorder with these structures will therefore lead to blood or tissue fluid accumulation in the calf. Some medical problems also can cause swollen lower legs.
